Over the last 4 years the cost of commuting for Central Indiana residents has more than doubled to over $4,000 annually! Tell us how transportation costs are impacting you.
On average it costs me about $8.50 to commute from my home in Brownsburg to my office downtown. On the days when I carpool, that's real savings for my family.
I drive from Nobelsville to Kokomo every day. It's about 45 minute drive, around 35 miles each way. That adds up to $12 per day with gas prices near $3.75.
Would be nice to have some public transportation options, there are a decent number of people who live in Noblesville, Carmel, Westfield who commute to Kokomo each day.
I've lived in a city for many years that had an awesome mass transit. I've been in Indianapolis for a dozen years and know that this city would do equally well with a similar system. Buses just can't provide the same service as commuter/light rail with park and ride options. Our city has gotten so big that this many people on the move each day should demand mass transit that works.
I recently started biking to work, even though I have a "relatively" fuel effecient car. I would LOVE reliable mass transit within Indy so I don't have to start driving again when the winter comes. We deserve better!
Living on the north side of Fishers, it costs me close to $20 roundtrip to commute to the IUPUI campus where I work. Recently, I have started carpooling to cut down on cost. I like the express bus but it makes the commute in the morning and afternoon a little too long for my taste. I think a light rail system, with a park and ride lot, is the way to go.
i changed jobs. i was working in decatur twps and driving back to warren twp everyday. it was a 50 miles round trip. if i took indygo it would have been 2 buses and i wont be able to do any overtime. so i went back downtown to our main office to work. now i can take a bus 3 times a week. since i live near a good busline (38th st)overtime wont be a major problem. i wish the buslines would on the adverage start about 1 hour earlier and have better weekend and holiday hours. some people have to work weekends and holidays. plus i have no idea how night shift workers around the indianapolis area (on the adverage) could even ride the bus. i beleive indy should model themselves off of citys such as stuttgart germany and chicago il.
I filled up my car for my daily commute from Lebanon to downtown Indy and it was $70. That will be gone in a week. Could someone please look into adding a another ICE line running down I-65 at least from Zionsville or Brownsburg
I'm about to lose my job because my car broke down and I can't find anyone to carpool from where I live in Castleton to where I work in Anderson. I haven't been to work in 3 weeks. I'm not getting paid. I will soon lose my apartment when I can no longer pay next months rent.
From downtown Carmel to Downtown Indy, with gas at $3/gallon, it cost about $10-15/day total including gas, parking, and other maintenance stuff on my car. Riding the ICE route from Meijer is only $6/day and I work the entire time. The 90 minutes a day of stress-free productivity is priceless. This route is a no brainer.
